The hotel's pitch, plainly
The hotel gives this room a nickname, "Miss Popularity", and says the styling borrows from the traditional Queenslander, the raised timber house typical of Queensland. Inside, the list matches the Deluxe Room: LCD television, cable and pay-per-view, your own air conditioning, a snack bar and fridge, free wifi, a safe.
Island or hill?
The two outlooks are different trips. Magnetic Island sits 8 km out across the water and is where the ferries run. Castle Hill is the landmark hill above the city, with walking tracks to a 360-degree lookout. The room page offers one or the other; the FAQ adds that views are not guaranteed for every room. If you have a preference, put it in the notes and we will ask for it by name.
Who should take it
Couples on a short break
Two adults, a king bed, a view out of the window and the pool downstairs. The price gap to a suite is $120 or more a night.
Walkers
If you plan to climb Castle Hill, a hill-side room shows you where you are headed before breakfast. Our notes on the hill are in 48 hours in Townsville.
Island day-trippers
An island-side room shows you the crossing before you make it. Ferry details are on Magnetic Island.
It is not the room for a family of four: the hotel lists two adults. Look at the Deluxe Room instead.
