The pool
An outdoor infinity-edge pool with a sun deck, palms, private cabanas and the swim-up Splash Bar, looking across the water to Magnetic Island. It opens at 7am and closes at 7pm every day. The hotel says the water stays cool when the weather heats up and is heated to 25 degrees all winter.
What is provided
Fresh towels, change rooms and showers. Bathrooms are in the pool area. There are no lockers.
Food on the deck
From Splash Bar only. Outside food is not allowed on the pool deck.
Hours to plan around
Pool 7am to 7pm, Splash Bar 9.30am to 6pm. An early swim comes before the bar opens.
Cabanas and day passes
Cabanas must be booked and typically take up to eight people; what comes with them depends on the package. If you are not staying, you can still use the pool with a Splash Bar Day Pass or a cabana booking, subject to availability. The day pass price changes between weekdays and weekends and includes food and drink credit to spend that day at Splash Bar and Quarterdeck. In-house guests have full access to the pool without a pass.
The gym
Open 5am to 10pm every day, free for in-house guests. Children must have an adult with them. That 5am start suits anyone who wants to train before a morning ferry or a work day.
Hands in Harmony day spa
A day spa business, Hands in Harmony, runs a studio on site at The Ville, offering massages, body wraps and facials. It has a second studio in town at 291 Flinders Street. The hotel recommends booking ahead; the spa's number is 07 4772 0031. The spa's website lists one set of opening hours without saying which studio they apply to, so we do not print them: ring before you plan around a time.
Other things to borrow or use
Bicycles
Free bicycle hire for guests. A good way to cover the Strand; see our notes on it.
Lawns
Palm-lined lawns run beside the pool. One corner, near the back rock wall, is a designated smoking area.
Concierge and laundry
Concierge and reception around the clock, same-day laundry and a seamstress, per the facilities page.
Pool or beach?
From November to May, Townsville's stinger season, the hotel pool is the simple answer for a swim without a stinger suit. The Strand has stinger nets and lifeguards from 9am, and the council's Rockpool at its northern end is a stinger-resistant seawater pool. Our page on the Strand has the details, cleaning days included.
