The view is the product
The hotel's description reads like a compass card: Magnetic Island to wake up to, then a private balcony overlooking the marina, the CBD and what it calls the dramatic landscape of Castle Hill. No other room description on the hotel's site names that many landmarks.
The fit-out
A personal balcony, a separate lounge room, two LCD televisions, cable and pay-per-view, individually controlled air conditioning, a snack bar and fridge, free wifi, premium bathroom amenities and an in-room safe.
Against its neighbours on the list
Versus the Resort Suite ($460)
Thirty dollars more buys the island-and-hill outlook and premium bathroom amenities; the Resort Suite keeps the spa bath and walk-in shower. Bath or view: that is the choice.
Versus the Pelorus Suite ($650)
The Pelorus is over 100 square metres on the top floor with a dining room, kitchenette and bar. If you are two people who will not cook or host, the Executive Suite does the important part for $160 less.
Then climb it
Castle Hill has several walking tracks up to a 360-degree lookout over the Coral Sea, the island and the city. Our notes are in 48 hours in Townsville.
It is a king-bed suite for two adults. A rollaway can be added to suites for $50 a night, subject to availability.
